Clear Mind, Focused Mind, Peace of Mind

The Way of the Mind

Learning to meditate starts as a stress management technique.  It clears psychological and emotional frustrations and quiets an overactive mind, which continuously observes, judges and compares everything.  Typically the mind then categorizes what it has observed or experienced into like/don't like, good/bad, want/don't want.  In this way, the mind controls us - not only our thoughts, but also our behavior - rather than we it, as we pursue what we want and avoid that which we don't want.  If you think about it for a moment, you may recognize this as the way of your mind.

4 Phases of Satyananda Yoga Meditation

1.  Befriend the Mind:  Meditation as stress management

2.  Focus the Mind:  Meditation to develop your power of concentration

3.  Self-Knowledge:  Meditation to see the influences that shape us

4.  Unity:  Meditation to transcend the ego and experience "oneness"

Satyananda Yoga teaches a series of user-friendly meditation techniques that guides one systematically from one phase to the next.

Meditation and Peace of Mind

"In fact, peace of mind is a prerequisite and not a consequence of meditation as we normally tend to think.  Unless you have obtained peace of mind you cannot ever meditate, because the distractions of mind will simply not allow you to reach that heightened state.  Instead of concentration, the mind will be wandering everywhere."
