Satyananda Yoga Nidra™ (the original yoga nidra) is a powerful practice devised by Paramahamsaji Satyananda based upon ancient tantric and other yoga practices.  A few of the many benefits realized by practitioners of Satyananda Yoga Nidra™  include:
  • relief from insomnia
  • the complete relaxation of the entire body-mind-spirit complex, which relieves muscular, mental and emotional tension and  stress
  • release of stored memories and emotions that, without our conscious awareness, influence the way we think and behave – often times in counterproductive ways

About Satyananda Yoga Nidra™

Everyone accumulates tensions, which amass in different layers of the human personality.  They accumulate in our muscular, mental and emotional systems.  Through the practice of Satyananda Yoga Nidra™, you can progressively free yourself of these three basic types of tensions, which are responsible for the agonies of modern life.  It is similar to - but more profound than - a guided meditation, and is done while lying in shavasana (relaxation pose).

The Impact of Yoga Nidra on the 3 Basic Types of Tensions:

  • Muscular tension related to the physical body, nervous system and endocrinal imbalances.  These are easily removed by the deep physical relaxation achieve through yoga nidra.
  • Emotional tensions stem from dualities such as love/hate, profit/loss, happiness/unhappiness and are more difficult to erase.  This is because we are often unable to express our emotions freely or we repress, rather than recognize, them.  Thus our emotions become more deeply rooted.  It is not possible to release these through ordinary sleep or relaxation.  But yoga nidra can tranquilize the entire emotional structure of the mind.
  • Mental tensions that result from excess mental activity.  Every life experience is registered in our unconsciousness.  They accumulate in the mental body and periodically affect our mind, body, behavior and reactions.  When we are angry, sad or irritated, there is a superficial cause and an underlying cause for our disturbed mind.  The underlying cause is the accumulated tensions on the mental plane.  Satyananda Yoga Nidra™ is the science of relaxation that enables us to dive deep down into the realms of the unconscious mind, release mental tensions and re-establish inner harmony.
When we practice yoga nidra we not only relax, we restructure and reform our whole personality from within.  With every session we are burning old samskaras, habits and tendencies.
